Boston Red Sox vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction: Can Chris Sale Dominate Against Former Team?

An underrated series is going on in Atlanta this week. The Braves stole game one against the Red Sox last night in a 4-2 battle. Tonight, Chris Sale will be pitching against his former team. Will he dominate the Red Sox, holding them to only a handful of runs like last night’s series opener, or will the Red Sox bats come back to life?

Boston Red Sox vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction

After a bumpy start to the season, Chris Sale has settled in nicely for Atlanta. He’s coming off back-to-back one run starts, racking up fifteen strikeouts against the Mariners and Guardians. I have a feeling tonight’s start will mean more for Sale after getting traded last year.

People forget Sale pitched in Boston for seven years. That’s a very long tenure in MLB. He talked about how much he’s been looking forward to his first start against his former team, stating he’s already enjoying the rivalry against his buddies. Coming off two great starts, Sale now has the confidence to shove against his former team on Wednesday night. It helps that he will be pitching in Atlanta with his new fans backing him as well.

The Red Sox prefer facing right-handed pitching. Wednesday night’s matchup against Sale will be a challenge for sure, especially with his new teammates rallying around the veteran looking to beat his former squad. Let’s continue to fade Boston on their little five game skid, as they’ve sneakily lost four of their last five games. This team is one of the streakiest in baseball, and when they are bad, they become extremely fade-able.

Instead of laying the juice on the Braves moneyline or forcing a wager on their runline with potentially one less frame than Boston at the plate if they’re up in the ninth inning, let’s target the Red Sox team total. They were unable to put up more than two runs in yesterday’s series opener. I don’t expect them to have more success against a highly-motivated Sale on Wednesday. Fade the Red Sox on their team total; I’ll meet you at the cash counter after a vintage Chris Sale masterclass.
