The Royals have put up double digit runs on the scoreboard in each of their last two outings and currently rank seventh in wRC+ (117) against right-handed pitchers. They also have the seventh lowest strikeout percentage against right-handed pitchers and are above league average in pitchers seen per plate appearance.
Severino has only gone five innings in each of his first two starts this season and struggled pitching deep into games last season. In 2023, Severino failed to recorded 18+ outs in 13 of his 18 starts.
Today, I’m taking the under on his 17.5 pitching outs because I think there’s a good chance the Royals’ offense stays hot and forces the Mets’ to call on their bullpen early. The Mets had their game postponed on Wendsday and defeated the Braves yesterday 16-4 which gave their bullpen some much needed rest.
