Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction: Can Sandy Alcantara, Marlins Dominate?
Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction: Can Sandy Alcantara, Marlins Dominate?
The Miami Marlins are a very exciting young team. Although their stats typically are pretty bad versus right-handed pitchers, they are very, very good versus left-handed pitchers. Their strengths, plus the fact they have a Sandy Alcantara back on top of their game, have me very confident in the Marlins versus Philadelphia Phillies game today. Can they keep up their strengths versus left-handed pitching?

Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
Sandy Alcantara has made some adjustments, and they have clearly worked. In his last four starts, his strikeouts are up, his hits and earned runs are down, and his walks are trending down as well. The Phillies, in the last 30 days, have been the third-worst team in wRC+ and are eighth-worst in on-base percentage. With the Phillies trending down and Sandy trending up, I really like for Sandy to shut them down.
The other side of the equation is the offense. The Marlins offense is elite versus left-handed pitching. They are the fourth-best team in wRC+ on the year versus lefties and 5th best in the last 30 days. They also rank second best in both the last 30 days and the entire year in on-base percentage against left-handed pitchers. Ranger Suarez has allowed three or more earned runs in five straight starts and six or more hits in five straight starts as well.
With the Marlins' ability to hit left-handed pitching and Sandy's resurgence, I really like the Marlins' ability to win the first five innings.
