The bottom quarter of the Australian Open is as wide open as any in recent grand slam history. Entering the third round, only one seeded player remains, and the top-four seeded players in the quarter have all been eliminated. So who’s the favorite to escape that quarter now? It’s the Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut who’s favored to reach a grand slam semifinal for only the second time in his career.

Agut is given +325 odds, or an implied 23.5% chance to reach the semifinal. He’s followed by three Americans in Tommy Paul, +440, JJ Wolf, +550, and Jenson Brooksby, +550. Two other Americans, Ben Shelton, and Michael Mmoh are given the worst odds to advance from the quarter at +1100 and +2500, respectively.
Andy Murray, the only player from the quarter who has been to a grand slam final, is given +650 odds. Meanwhile, the only Australian left in the quarter, Alexei Popyrin, is given +800 odds to win the quarter.
Can an American reach the semifinal of a grand slam for a second straight grand slam? Frances Tiafoe did at the US Open, and now Americans make up five of the final eight in the bottom quarter.
