Men’s Olympic 1500m Final Odds: American Cole Hocker Third Favorite To Win Gold

Historically, the 1500m is not an event that the United States Track & Field team has done particularly well in. As a matter of fact, going into the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, the last time Tea USA won the men’s 1500m was back in 1908.

But, that all changed in 2016 when America’s Matthew Centrowitz Jr. took home the gold medal in the 1500m at Rio.

Now, Cole Hocker is Team USA’s final hope for gold, or any medal, in the 2021 men’s 1500m final.

At just 20 years old, this is Hocker’s first Olympics ever. It’s been quite the past few months for Hocker. First, he beat Centrowitz at Olympic Qualifiers and while he didn’t run an OQ time, he made it based on his world ranking. Then, in his qualifiers at the Olympics, he made the semifinals with a 3:36.16. He then proceeded to run his fastest 1500m time of his life in the semifinals, recording a PR of 3:33.87.

Now, Hocker is the third favorite to win the gold medal in the men’s 1500m final on Saturday morning with odds of +1800. Kenyan Timothy Cheruiyot is the favorite at -139. Jakob Ingebrigsten of Norway is the second favorite with odds of +250.

The men's 1500m final is scheduled to take place on Saturday at 7:40 am ET.
