2021 Olympics Odds: USA Favored To Win Most Medals, China and Japan Follow

The Olympics begin in just 4 days. So, who do oddsmakers have winning the overall competition? That would be the United States, with some Asian countries behind them.

Olympics Odds: Most Medals

USA favored to stand atop the Medal table

CountryOddsImplied chance
USA-70087.5%
China+72012.2%
Japan+33002.9%
Great Britain+40002.4%
Russia+50002%

The United States is a massive favorite followed by China and host Japan. Oddsmakers don’t see a real challenge coming for the US though. Who can blame them? Since 1990, only twice has the US not topped the medal table at a Summer Olympics, 1992 and 2008. Over the last 30 days, 46.2% of bets have been placed on the US to top the table, by far the most on the market.

China expected to take home the Silver

China is the massive favorite to take home the overall silver. Since 2000, China has become a Summer Olympics powerhouse coming in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd at nearly every tournament. Over the last 30 days, 83.3% of bets have been placed on China to take overall 2nd place.

Oddsmakers and bettors at odds over Bronze

Japan+15838.7%
China+30025%
Russia+34022.7%
Great Britain+37021.3%
Germany+12007.7%

The race for bronze is much tighter. Oddsmakers are shockingly going with Japan. This year’s host country hasn’t had a top-3 finish at a Summer Olympics since 1968. They did also finish 3rd in 1964, which was the last time the Summer Olympics was held in Tokyo. Over the las 30 days, 33.3% of bets have been placed on Japan, and 33.3 % have been placed on Great Britain making those two the bettors’ favorites to take home the bronze.
