BMW PGA Championship Odds, Picks & Analysis: Shane Lowry Popular With Bettors
Patrick Reed, Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose are just some of the big names teeing it up in England for the BMW PGA Championship this week; the European Tour’s biggest event of the schedule. Wentworth is the hosting course as always and it promises to be an exciting tournament.
Some of the biggest names in golf have won the event including Arnold Palmer, Nick Faldo, Rory McIlroy and Seve Ballesteros and the top players in this year’s field will be desperate to get on the historic roll of honor.
Patrick Reed has enjoyed plenty of success already on the European Tour so perhaps it’s not a great surprise the American heads over to the UK to play. He’s the current Race To Dubai leader and will have one eye on that season-long prize. He finished fourth on his Wentworth debut last year and will be tough to beat after a strong US Open showing when last seen.

Of the other big names, Justin Rose has twice been a runner-up at Wentworth and Tommy Fleetwood heads into the event off the back of a playoff defeat at the Scottish Open – they’ll both be popular for those looking to have a wager, however there’s a surprising name top of the punters list at the moment.
Shane Lowry, the defending Open champion has been the most backed golfer so far this week to come out on top at the BMW PGA. Lowry has accounted for 8.79% of bets despite some relatively poor form in 2020. Bettors are putting faith in strong course form; the Irishman has previously been a runner-up in this event and has numerous other strong finishes to his name. The best odds available for Shane Lowry are +2700 (27/1).

2020 has been a breakthrough season for young Australian Lucas Herbert and it nearly got even better last week at the Scottish Open. A third round 79 certainly cost him the victory and this only made the final round 65 even more impressive, bouncing back after a disastrous Saturday. A third-place finish there and his best ever Major finish just a few weeks ago at the US Open (T31) will set Herbert up perfectly for Wentworth. There’s no reason why Herbert’s game won’t translate well this week either, he currently sits 9th in strokes-gained putting for 2020 and 9th in strokes-gained overall.
Another young, up and comer worth a wager this week is Erik Van Rooyen who also comes into the event in great form. Not only has Van Rooyen been making his presence felt in the US (top 25 finishes in US Open and WGC St Jude) in the last couple of months, but he made his return to European shores last week in the Scottish Open where a 6th-placed finish proved his game is still in rude health.  A weekend score of -9 in this event last year proves the course suits him well and you’d be surprised if he wasn’t in the thick of the action at the business end this week.
