Novak Djokovic disqualified from the US Open

Novak Djokovic's temper has caused him to flirt with danger throughout his career, however, his petulant tendencies caught up with him today. The world number one and favorite to win the US Open was dramatically axed from this year's competition following an incident with a female line judge.

A frustrated Novak Djokovic angrily swiped at a ball, which just happened to strike a line judge in the throat. It was clear Djokovic wasn't aiming for the line judge, and was obviously an accident, however, this didn't save the Serbian from being disqualified from the competition.

Novak Djokovic was the bookmakers favorite to win the US Open, and his pre-competition odds (-125) suggested he had a 55.6% chance of winning the 2020 US Open. His exit will be a big relief for online bookmakers but will cause heartache with the majority of bettors. Djokovic was the most wagered player heading into the US Open despite his short odds, just over 29% of bets were placed on the 33-year-old before a ball was hit in New York.

The betting market has dramatically changed with Novak Djokovic out of the picture. Online bookmakers have installed Daniil Medvedev as the new favorite at +190, closely followed by Alexander Zverev.
