Serena Williams gave her fans a scare on Saturday when going one set down in her clash with 2017 champion Sloane Stephens, but managed to come out on top at Flushing Meadows to progress to the second week of the US Open.

That would have pleased not only her fans, but bettors alike, as we can reveal that in the past 48 hours she’s been the best backed player in the tournament to win an elusive 24th Grand Slam title.

She’s taken up 17.47% of bets on OddsChecker in the past couple of days, just slightly more than Tsvetana Pironkova, who’s also been popular with 16.31%. Pironkova was also victorious yesterday and will face Alize Cornet on Tuesday in the fourth round.

Despite her popularity with bettors, she’s still not the favorite to win the 2020 US Open, Naomi Osaka, the 2018 champ heads the betting at +400, with Williams second choice at +500.
