All Quiet on the Western Front
Although it might not have the same strong odds of winning the Best Picture award, All Quiet on the Western Front was another huge success of a movie. The German-language WW1 drama produced by Netflix was awarded the most non-English film at the BAFTAs. All Quiet on the Western Front earned nine different Academy Awards nominations, which is the second highest of any film. The drama is leading the race to win ‘Best International Film.’
The Banshees of Inisherin
The Banshees of Inisherin is one of the most popular films from this year. This dark comedy is about two warring friends set on a fictional Western Irish Island during the Irish Civil war. The Fabelmans, based on Steven Spielberg’s childhood and his love for film, is directed by Spielberg himself. Although critics lauded the movie, it performed relatively poorly at the box office and is only up for three Oscar nominations in total. The 2022 Golden Globes Best Picture has seen its odds slip from 1100 to 3000.
Tar
Led by Cate Blanchett, Tar is a Psychological drama that is critically acclaimed. Tar is directed by Todd Field, which was his first film in 10 years now. Triangle of Sadness
Triangle of Sadness is a social commentary on the lives of the ultra-rich on board a superyacht. The film stars Woody Harrelson as the captain of the ship, who happens to be a Marxist.
