5 Worst Super Bowl Halftime Shows of All Time
With Super Bowl 57 just around the corner, immense excitement for the big game is growing. It's also a great time to reflect on past year's Super Bowls. Aside from who won the game and the crazy touchdowns made, people also remember the Super Bowl halftime show.
Being able to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show is one of the biggest accomplishments for artists. Aside from the almost 100,000 people you perform live in front of, you also have hundreds of millions of people watching from their screens. We've seen pop stars, rap stars, hip-hop stars, and every type of artist you can think of.
Below, I've listed the five worst Super Bowl halftime shows of all time.

5. Maroon 5 (2019)
Leading up to the 2019 Super Bowl was a mess, to say the least. Singers such as Rihanna and Cardi B turned down the performance opportunity to show solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, as well as over 100,000 Maroon 5 fans who signed a petition begging them not to perform.
During the performance itself, Adam Levine took his shirt off too many times. Travis Scott then popped up on stage to the Spongebob Squarepants intro song. Levine's dance moves were uncomfortable. It was quite a weird performance. People were not happy that a group of nondiverse men were the ones performing.
As bad as Maroon 5 was, Coldplay was worse.
4. Coldplay, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars (2016)
There is no hate to Beyonce at all; her performance of "Formation" was spectacular. However, having Coldplay perform during one of the biggest events in the world to play "Viva La Vida"? Who thought this would be a good idea to hype people up?
This wasn't the worst Super Bowl halftime show, but it definitely wasn't great.
3. Janet Jackson (2004)
Of course, Janet Jackson's performance has to be on this list. Janet can sing and perform like no other, but her voice isn't what made this show memorable. Singing "Rock Your Body" on stage with Justin Timberlake, Timberlake accidentally ripped Jackson's bra off.
As amazing of a show she put on, people could not live this down. Justin received almost as much backlash as Janet did as well. The 2004 Super Bowl halftime show will likely forever go down as one of the worst.
2. Â Aerosmith, Britney Spears, NSync, Nelly, Mary J. Blige (2001)
Talk about a mish-mosh of people. Pop, rock, and rap, all together. This was one of the most interesting halftime shows yet. All the singers came together to perform "Walk This Way" to end the absurd show.
The boyband dance moves that NSync tried to rock, mixed with a splash of Circus-era Brittney Spears, the 2001 Super Bowl show is even funnier now than it was back then.
1. Elvis Presto (1989)
The Elvis Presto 1989 Super Bowl show takes the cake for being the worst-ever Super Bowl halftime show. What was supposed to be an Elvis Presley impersonator turned into a frightening and corny mess.
The Elvis impersonator acted as a magician doing the strangest magic tricks to the crowd. The audience was not engaged at all. Keep in mind this was in 3D as well—magic tricks in 3D during a football game. While the tricks were occurring, a sponsored video by Diet Coke was playing in the background.
It still blows my mind this occurred and was planned out.
