How to Bet on Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest 2024

We are a day away from July 4th, and while most will think of Independence Day, there is a large group of people out there, that will immediately think of Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Muhammad Ali, Joey Chestnut. This is the Mount Rushmore of athletes, as just 12 months ago, Chestnut won his 16th title at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. He has won 15 of the last 16 contests, beaten once by Matt Stonie. Chestnut is the most recognizable competitive eater in the world and attracts an entire audience to this event on his own.

This year though, the contest will go on without Chestnut, as he has been banned from the event, following his affiliation with Nathan's competitor, Impossible Foods. As Impossible makes plant-based hot dogs, they are seen as a competitor, which means he cannot participate.

This means we will have a new winner of this event for the first time since Matt Stonie's shock win in 2015, and the betting now looks wide open.

Mikki Sudo will now be looked to as the familiar face, as she will look to win her 10th title, having never lost the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. The only time she hasn't won since 2014, is when she missed the 2021 renewal due to pregnancy.

Here at oddschecker, we have put together this useful guide on how to bet on Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, so that you can see how betting will work, even without Joey Chestnut participating in this year's contest.

Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest 2024 Preview

The big news this year is that Joey Chestnut is out of the 2024 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, which means a new winner will be crowned in the Men's competition for the first time since 2015.

The person expected to take advantage of Chestnut's absence is Geoffrey Esper, who has finished runner-up to Chestnut every year since 2021. Esper has eaten 50 hot dogs hunting down Chestnut in the past and finished 49 last year.

James Webb finished 3rd last year, eating 47 hot dogs to Esper's 49, with the former making just his second appearance in the event last year.

Mikki Sudo will win the 2024 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, and it likely won't be close. She is -750 to win for a reason.

Geoffrey Esper Odds

Geoffrey Esper is the +100 favorite to win the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2024, now that his rival, Joey Chestnut is out.

He has held the mantle of next-best for the past few years, and now it is his time to shine.

Geoffrey Esper Over/Under Total Hot Dogs Eaten Betting Line

Geofferey's Over/Under line has been set at 49.5 or more Hot Dogs eaten at the 2024 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. Esper's record is 51 hot dogs and buns and over the last three years he has eaten 50, 47, and 49. The odds on the over look a bit aggressive.

Geoffrey Esper Total Hot Dogs Eaten

  • 49.5 or more (-130)
  • Less than 49.5 (+100)

Miki Sudo Odds

Miki Sudo is the -750 favorite over at FanDuel Sportsbook to win this year's women's contest.

She is almost guaranteed to win, so it is almost pointless to bet against her.

Miki Sudo Over/Under Total Hot Dogs Eaten Betting Line

Miki Sudo's Over/Under has been set at 40.5, 3 hot dogs lower than where the line was set last year. That is not a surprise given the 43.5 was more than she has ever eaten in this contest, outside of the indoor renewal in 2020. DraftKings are clearly expecting Michelle Lesco to push Sudo all the way, which will in turn lead to her eating more to win this title. Sudo has eaten 40+ hot dogs three times in this competition, but won with 39.5 hot dogs and buns eaten last year.

Miki Sudo Total Hot Dogs Eaten

  • 40.5 or more (+125)
  • Less than 40.5 (-155)
