Man City has been in mostly sparkling form this season, currently second in the EPL. However, after their recent scandal, bettors have quickly turned against them. They’ve now become the betting favorite to be relegated.

As a result of their scandal, 76.3% of bets have been placed on them to be relegated over the last 12 hours. That’s by far the most on the market, with Liverpool second with 6.3% of bets placed on them. Leeds follows in third at 3.6%.

The books don’t agree though, as Man City is still given +10000 odds, or an implied 1% chance to be relegated. So, either they don’t believe a severe punishment is coming or they want to wait and see if it’ll affect the reigning EPL champions.  

How much of an impact will Man City’s financial scandal have on them? It’s not yet clear, but with 100 violations over nine seasons, it’s probably going to be a significant one if they’re found guilty by a neutral arbiter. While things aren’t settled yet, bettors believe a massive punishment is coming. With Man City’s odds of being relegated so good they decided to take a chance on it. Of course, the books aren’t ready to move the odds with nothing final, but that could change very soon. One thing is for certain, this scandal has now turned City into a huge liability.
