#1 Dornoch (20-1)

If Dornoch is higher than 20-1 after all of the love that the big media will give him for beating Sierra Leone in the Remsen back in December, I'll be shocked. Dornoch and Sierra Leone are not the same horses they were back in December, and Dornoch has not recently shown that he's worth a big bet. Use him with caution at anything lower than 20-1.

#2 Sierra Leone (3-1)

Sierra Leone has been ticking upward a bit in terms of odds going into the morning of the Kentucky Derby - good for fans of this massive late closer. If he is sitting anywhere around 5-1 when the race goes off I believe that he will be my best bet of the day. Use him at 7-2 or higher.

#3 Mystik Dan (20-1)

It has been raining in the Louisville Area over the last few days, and that could make the ground a little soppy for Mystik Dan, who has gone tremendously over a wet track in the past. It also can't hurt that the Oaks winner was rode by the same jockey here today: Brian Joseph Hernandez. If it rains, use him at 15-1, otherwise look for 20-1 or higher.

#4 Catching Freedom (8-1)

Catching Freedom is a colt that will be almost certainly be running from the mid to back of the pack, and has put up speed figures that are similar to that of Sierra Leone. The only thing is, he has taken on Sierra Leone before, and was bested by both him and Track Phantom in the Risen Star. But that race was in the slop, so maybe that had something to do with Catching Freedom not being the best that day. Use at 10-1 or higher.

#5 Catalytic (30-1)

I think that this horse is going to be 50-1 by the time that all is said and done. Catalytic ran 2nd behind Fierceness in the Florida Derby, but was well behind after he made his move. If you want a squirrelly longshot, then Catalytic may be your colt. I won't be using him though at anything less than 50-1.

#6 Just Steel (20-1)

Keith Asmussen teams up with trainer D Wayne Lukas to ride Just Steel in the Derby. This will be the 11th race for this son of Justify, which is more than any other horse in the race. Despite the inexperience of Keith Asmussen compared to other jockeys in this race, Keith is an extremely good judger of race pace and could be a threat at a long price. Use him underneath and maybe a little sprinkle on the win bet side at 25-1 or higher.

#7 Honor Marie (20-1)

Honor Marie has a late closing style similar to that of Sierra Leone and Catching Freedom. Everyone also has been raving about how this horse has been working out in the mornings. With a lot of buzz around Honor Marie, I fear that we won't see a price anywhere near 20-1, and it'll be more in the 10-1 range. Play at 15-1 or higher.

#8 Just a Touch (10-1)

Brad Cox has called Just a Touch a "grade one horse," which I thought was a very good sign going into the biggest grade one race of this colt's life. Just a Touch will be hustled out of the gate early to sit behind the front runners and will be called to make his move at the far turn. If he improves off of his run in the Blue Grass Stakes, he could be a problem. Play at 10-1 or higher.

#9 Encino (20-1 SCRATCHED)

Sadly, Encino will not be running in the 150th Kentucky Derby.

#10 T O Password (30-1)

This is the most inexperienced horse in this field. T O Password is perfect in his career, but he's only ran twice! The competition he was taking on in Japan was not even close to the competition he's going to face today. I'm not betting him at anything under 99-1.

#11 Forever Young (10-1)

Forever Young has ran in the Middle East on his way to the Kentucky Derby. There are a lot of things going well for this horse, as trainer Yoshito Yahagi has made a big splash in the world stage of racing with his ability to ship horses from Japan out to the far reaches of the globe and win huge races. It's going to be a big ask for this horse to go from the Middle East to Louisville, but if he's ready to rumble, I could see Forever Young being liable to win this thing. Anything under 10-1 I don't think is great value on this one.

#12 Track Phantom (20-1)

Track Phantom will not be 20-1 when the gates open in the Derby. This is a horse that is just all gas no brakes in a race with a number of other horses with a similar running style. If Track Phantom gets the lead and a soft pace up top, he could be a threat, but that isn't going to happen. His running style stacks him up against the grain of this race, and I think is 35-1 when the race begins. At least you do get better value on him? Bet to win or not at all.

#13 West Saratoga (50-1)

Trainer Larry Demeritte makes his Derby debut with West Saratoga, who isn't the fastest horse, but maybe the smartest horse in the whole field. He continuously puts himself in the right spots in races, which can be a really helpful tactic to have going into the Kentucky Derby. He's maybe not fast enough to win the race, but I will have some tickets playing West Saratoga underneath at 40-1 or higher.

#14 Endlessly (30-1)

Endlessly is a turf horse running in the biggest dirt race in America. Churchill Downs in the past has been friendly to turf horses running on the dirt, but I just don't think this is the right spot for Endlessly. This horse could be a grade 1 winner someday on the grass, but this try in the Derby probably isn't his time to shine. I'd play him at 50-1 or higher.

#15 Domestic Product (30-1)

This is another late running horse from trainer Chad Brown that could be dangerous is the early pace boils over. This horse has a tremendous late kick, and if he finds his way through traffic, I think could hit the board. I don't know if he's fast enough to win it all, however. Play underneath and hope for a pace meltdown.

#16 Grand Mo the First (50-1)

Grand Mo the First ran behind Fierceness in the Florida Derby. He has shipped before, running in the Zuma Beach all the way out at Santa Anita - a grade 3 event on the turf where he ran 3rd to Endlessly. I don't think he's fast enough to be a real factor here, but he will be a high price. Use at 60-1 or higher.

#17 Fierceness (5-2)

I'm guessing Fierceness will be 2-1 or 9-5 by the time that the race begins. If Fierceness gets things his way in the race and runs like the Florida Derby he may win by a pole, but he has been inconsistent. Do you believe that the good Fierceness will show up enough to bet him at under 2-1? That'll be a tough question to ask. Bet him to win, or not at all.

#18 Stronghold (20-1)

The top horse coming from the west coast hasn't been getting a lot of early money since the gates opened, but I think that with Stronghold's emotional journey to get to the race getting some coverage by the big media, he'll take a lot of money on Derby day. I think Stronghold is worth a look at anything higher than 20-1.

#19 Resilience (20-1)

If Resilience can run back to his last race in the Wood Memorial, he could very well win this race. However, I'm nervous that race was a fluke for Resilience and Society Man. We'll see, though! Hope for 30-1 or higher.

#20 Society Man (50-1)

50-1 is tempting with Society Man. Frankie Dettori is going to be hungrier for the Kentucky Derby than almost any other jockey in this race. He has been in the Derby one time before, and at 53 years old, he'll be going for his first win. Use underneath or a win bet over 40-1.

#21 Epic Ride (30-1)

I think Epic Ride a nice speed horse and will be up on the lead early, I think he'll take more money than he should, however, with people remembering how #21 Rich Strike won a couple of years ago. Use him at long odds only, 40-1 or higher.
