• Lucky No.5? - Post position No. 5 has produced the MOST winners (10) in the history of the Kentucky Derby. Catalytic (30-1) has the 5th post position in this year's race.
• Will No.1 reign superme? - While the No.1 post position can be considered a negative, we have seen eight winners from that spot. No.1 is perceived as a negative post position, but it has actually produced eight winners in the Kentucky Derby over the years. The reason people view it so negatively is the fact we haven't seen a winner from that position since 1986.
• No.8 Looks Good - Mage won from the #8 position last year, and that took it to 9 wins from this position, so this looks like a favorable position as well. Just a Touch (10-1) runs from here this weekend.

Where Have the Favorites Been Drawn for the 2024 Kentucky Derby?

Fierceness (5-2) was originally drawn in the dreaded 17th post position, but will now run from #16, where we have seen four Kentucky Derby winners run from. The most recent came in 2011.

Sierra Leone (3-1) will try and break a baron spell for the #2 post position and try and become the first Kentucky Derby-winning horse from that position since 1978! Seven horses have won from this position though, so it is doable.

Catching Freedom (8-1) is the next closest challenger and will run from #4. Five winning horses have emerged from this position over the years, with the most recent since 2010.
