There are now four horses with an equal chance of winning ‘The Run for the Roses’, according to Oddschecker data.

Long-time favorites Game Winner and Improbable have been caught by Roadster and Omaha Beach, with all now priced at 7/1 by a number of books to triumph on May 4th.

Roadster’s rise has been particularly marked, having shortened from 25/1 just three weeks ago, while Omaha Beach has seen his price fall from 18/1 in the same timeframe.

In relative terms, the current odds mean that the books believe that there is a 50% that one of the four will triumph – as likely as the rest of the field put together.

That said, it is 6th favourite Tacitus who is currently the most backed horse through Oddschecker with 33% of the market share.

Oddschecker spokesperson Pete Watt: “The prices have been hammered in for both Roadster and Omaha Beach, showing that books aren’t convinced about who’ll win this year’s Derby.

“Confusion often leads to some favorable prices, so this is great news for bettors.

“Whilst everyone is preoccupied with the favorites, it’s always worth looking where the smart money is going, and it’s Tacitus that is drawing the lion’s share of the market.

Not long until Riders’ Up!”
