Formula 1 Rankings: Ranking the Top 10 F1 Drivers of All Time

While Netflix’s series on F1 and the drivers that make up its annual circuit might have propelled the sport into the mainstream here in the United States, Formula One has long drawn international eyes as one of the world's most popular sports. With over 750 racers to ever start an F1 race, let's look at the top 10 best F1 drivers of all time, across all generations.

10. Niki Lauda

Niki Lauda was a legendary Formula 1 driver who was known for his toughness and will to win. He won three Formula 1 titles during his career, including two with Ferrari and one with McLaren. Lauda is considered one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history, and his legacy continues to inspire drivers today.

9. Jim Clark

Born in Scotland in 1939, Stewart began his racing career in karting and Formula Junior before making his Formula 1 debut with the works BRM team in 1965. Stewart would go on to win 27 races over the course of his career, making him the second most successful British driver in Formula 1.

8. Sir Jackie Stewart

When it comes to the greatest drivers in the history of Formula 1, there are few who can match the achievements of Sir Jackie Stewart. A three-time World Champion, Stewart was a dominant force in the sport from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s. He also played a pivotal role in improving safety standards in Formula 1.

7. Nigel Mansell

Mansell's family disapproved of his choice to pursue a career in racing, but he persevered and went on to have a successful career in Formula racing. He is best known for his time with Williams, where he won the 1992 Formula One World Championship.

6. Fernando Alonso

This is a man that has definitely made his mark on Formula 1. Alonso's successes early on in his career with Renault put him firmly on the map as one of the sport's brightest talents. And even though he hasn't been able to add to his championship tally in recent years, he remains one of the most consistent drivers on the grid.

5. Ayrton Senna
