2022 Monaco GP Odds: F1 Betting Odds and Picks

It was a wild one last week in Barcelona, as the Spanish Grand Prix offered no shortage of drama before Red Bull’s Max Verstappen came away victorious. In what was his fourth win of the season, the reigning 2021 champion trailed for most of before the final few laps of the race. 

The win, however, was riddled with controversy, as teammate Sergio Perez led for much of the race before the team made the decision to let Verstappen pass him late to maximize points following previous points leader Charles Leclerc's (Ferrari) retirement from the race. With the win and Leclerc failing to finish, Verstappen moved into first place in the Drivers standings with 110 points as the halfway point of the season approaches. 

Additionally, with Sergio Perez’s second-place finish, Red Bull has taken a dominant lead in the Constructors standings picking up 44 points to now lead with 195. Can Leclerc and Ferrari get back on track in his home country of Monaco this week?

As you can see, despite the results his last time out, the latest F1 odds love Charles Leclerc.

For yet another week, the most dominant driver so far this season, Leclerc, was stopped short due to an issue with his car largely out of his control. This time a power unit issue that ended his race, Leclerc has been dominating in practice and qualifying, once again winning the pole last week after claiming the fastest lap in each and every practice. 

Now heading to his home track at the Monaco GP, the circuit is a unique want in that it requires a specific set of skills and specifications that not all drivers and teams have. Specifically, the slow speed efficiency of the car is critical, one area that Ferrari has shown prowess in and one that Red Bull trails slightly behind. 

Winning the pole here last season in the midst of the battle between Verstappen and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, and with a lesser car, than he has this season, Leclerc has already shown a propensity for this track that will likely be again on display starting qualifying. If results this season are any indication for this week, the medium-speed corners should also play to Ferarri’s advantage, as they’ve taken a step ahead of both Red Bull and Ferrari in that category.

While his luck at Monaco, where he’s had one unfortunate crash after another, likely plays into some of these discounted odds, I think the value remains on the Ferrari team and specifically their top guy in Leclerc. I also expect Leclerc to get a boost from teammate Carlos Sainz, who had the weight of Spain on his shoulders last week, finishing 4th and just shy of the podium.
