NHL MVP Odds: Nathan MacKinnon Rises to 57% Chance To Win NHL MVP

We're back with an updated edition of NHL MVP odds, as the All Star Break held in Toronto signals the halfway point of the 2024 season.

Nathan MacKinnon hasn't slowed down his frenzied pace, scoring five goals and seven total points in two games against Washington and Los Angeles. He's gone from plus odds, down to minus odds at -135 at FanDuel Sportsbook. Barring injury, Colorado's star center looks to be a runaway favorite for the Hart Trophy.

Nikita Kucherov is making a push though, racking up four goals and five assists, including a hat trick outing against Philadelphia, climbing from +380 to +300. Connor McDavid is the last prospect with odds inside of +1000, currently third at +400. Edmonton's win streak can be largely attributed to the play of McDavid, who has stepped up after a slow start, scoring five goals and four assists in his previous three games, but his odds have actually moved down from +240 to +400.

NHL handicapper Matt MacKay is back to give his latest analysis and advice for how to bet on the 2024 NHL MVP market with these current odds.

NHL MVP ODDS BREAKDOWN

From a betting standpoint, Nathan MacKinnon still has value at -135 odds. A lot of it depends on the trajectory of Colorado following the All Star Break. The Avs possess a one-point lead in the Central division over Dallas, while Winnipeg trails by only two points in third place. As long as MacKinnon and the Avalanche continue to win games, which they've done lately, going 7-3 in their last 10, then betting -135 odds will look much better than -200 or shorter in the coming weeks.

Kucherov is challenging as the runner-up right now at +300. Tampa Bay's scoring machine recorded a hat trick against the Flyers, while notching two assists in each of the following two games. The Lightning are 4-1 in their last five games played, winning 6-3 in three consecutive games, displaying their offensive firepower. Tampa Bay sits in third place in the Atlantic division behind Boston and Florida, but if they continue to win games, Kucherov quickly becomes a value pick at +300 odds. The Russian winger already took home the 2018-19 Hart Trophy, so he knows what it takes to deliver down the stretch.

Edmonton's win streak has ballooned up to 16 consecutive games. The Oilers sport a +36 goal differential, while their captain, Connor McDavid, has been producing at a high rate since the beginning of January. An early season lull has been long forgotten, with McDavid fourth in total points (67), assists (47), and ninth in goals created. Wagering a unit is worth the value when it comes to betting on the three-time Hart Trophy winner to collect his fourth MVP.

David Pastrnak and Auston Matthews are pure goal scorers, but they are at a distance compared to the other three players. Pastrnak and the Bruins are a well-oiled machine, sitting with a five-point lead over the Panthers in the Atlantic. He's third in total goals (33), while Matthews leads the NHL with 40 goals heading into the All Star Break. Pastrnak's team is better, as Toronto is 5-4-1 in their last 10 games, but Matthews deserves recognition for being the majority of the Maple Leafs' offense.

Betting on either of these two elite goal scoring talents is worth consideration. Since the Bruins have a more complete team that is dominating the majority of its opponents on a consistent basis, betting +1200 on Pastrnak's MVP odds is better than Matthews at +1300, despite the latter player's ability to score in bunches.
