Army vs. Navy Odds: Army Given 60% Chance to Beat Navy

The Army Black Knights will face off with the Navy Midshipmen for the 124th time, and the series heads to Boston for the first edition in its storied history.

Last year's matchup was the first overtime game in the series, which saw West Point escape by a field goal in 2OT. However for context, overtime only became part of the game in the last three decades, and these two have been going at it for more than a century. Navy leads the all-time series 62-54, but there have been seven previous ties before the OT era.

The teams have played in 18 stadiums across 10 cities over the years, and there has been streaks throughout. Navy won 14 games in a row from 2002 to 2015, before Army stopped the skid and won three straight of their own.

The team's have been alternating back and forth in the five years since then, with Army taking the most recent. Can Navy continue the pattern and grab a victory in the 2023 clash, or will the Cadets overpower the Midshipmen at Gillette Stadium? Let's take a look at the latest Army vs. Navy odds and provide some analysis on the showdown.

Army vs. Navy Prediction

The Army Black Knights are coming off a big win over Coastal Carolina on November 18. They only needed to attempt two passes as they ran for 365 yards on the ground and couldn't be stopped in a 28-21 win that wasn't as close as the score indicated.

Army has had strong success when starting with a lead, as positive game scripts have led to them punishing opponents with the rushing attack. They've rattled off 260 rushing yards per game in their last three contests, and will look to bring the heat on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Knights finished strong with three straight victories to end the season, despite facing a gauntlet of a schedule in the middle. No one really expected them to beat LSU, Boston College, Syracuse, or SunBelt Champion Troy, but they competed in some of those games.

Army also ruined a fellow service academy's perfect season when they upset previously undefeated Air Force with a 23-3 beatdown. Air Force had already taken down Navy 17-6 earlier in the season, but the undeterred Cadets went on the road to Colorado Springs and stifled the Falcons for four straight quarters.

Army opened as a 2-point favorite in this game, but has since climbed to -3 after receiving the large majority of early money. Their moneyline odds are -150, giving them a 60% implied chance to win this game as a small favorite.

On the other side, Navy has played a bit of a weaker schedule but comes in with an identical 5-6 record. They took down UAB and East Carolina at home, before getting throttled by SMU to end the season. The Midshipmen don't arrive with the same momentum sported by the West Point Cadets, and it may show early in this one.

Schematically, they play almost the same game. They have tough and athletic future soldiers running the ball on every play, and seldom need to pass unless playing from behind. The statistics back this up, as both teams sit in the top-15 of rushing yards per game nationally, and are the bottom three in the country in passing yards. All three service academies round out the lowest three, and are the only team's with under 100 passing yards per game.

The difference in this game will be who can start fast and hit the other team in the mouth. When looking at two teams that are dead set on playing the same style of football, the common opponent comparison holds a lot of weight. Army was able to get the leg up on Air Force and run all over them on the road, while the Midshipmen never found their footing and mustered only six points in their home loss.

Look for Army to come out fast and try to force their way to the end zone on their opening drive with a collection of sweeps and off-tackle plays. If they are able to gain that critical 7-0 advantage, they should be able to impose their will on the Midshipmen in Foxborough.
