The Cheltenham Festival is one of the biggest events in the British National Hunt horse racing calendar. It takes place every year in early March at Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire.
The Festival is split over four days, with seven races taking place on each day. It begins on Tuesday 12th March 2024, and runs until Friday 15th March 2024.
Over these four days, 28 races will be run across the two tracks at Cheltenham Racecourse. This will include novices chase races, mares hurdle races, handicap chase races and champion hurdle races. Fans will be able to bet on each of these races.

Wednesday 13th March is Ladies Day. It is one of the most popular days of the Cheltenham Festival. Women dressed in their finest outfits will all pour into Cheltenham Racecourse to enjoy a day of racing.
Gates open at 10:30 AM with the first race taking place at 13:30.
Wednesday's feature race is The Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase (Grade 1). This is a chase with a distance of about 2 miles and total prize money of £400,000.

Day three of the Cheltenham Festival takes place on Thursday 14th March, which is St Patrick's Day. The Festival often coincides with St Patrick's Day, making it a popular event for those wanting to celebrate.
Like the other days, gates to Cheltenham Racecourse will open at 10:30 AM with the first race taking place at 13:30.
Thursday has two feature races. The first is The Ryanair Steeple Chase (Grade 1), which is run over a distance of 2 mile and 5 furlongs. Prize money of £350,000 will be shared among the placed horses.
The second feature race is The Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle (Grade 1). This race is run over a distance of around 3 miles with prize money of £325,000.

The final day of the Cheltenham Festival meeting takes place on Friday 15th March. It is known as Gold Cup Day because is host to the most prestigious race of The Festival.
On Gold Cup Day, gates open at 10:30 AM, with the first race starting at 13:30.
The feature race for day 4 is The Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup. It is run over the longest distance of the Cheltenham Festival, with the runners covering a distance of 3 miles, 2 furlongs and 70 yards. The prize money for the Gold Cup is also the highest of The Festival, with £625,000 being shared amongst the top horses.

The first racing to take place at Cheltenham was in 1861 as part of the National Hunt Chase, and the first time it was called the Cheltenham Festival was 1907.
Its total prize money of more than £4.5 million put it second only to the Grand National, which is held at Aintree Racecourse.
More than 270,000 people attend the Cheltenham Festival each year.
There are 28 races making up the Cheltenham Festival, spread over four days. Each day has a championship race, with the Gold Cup taking place on the last day of the festival.
The Cheltenham Festival is a unique event in the horse racing calendar in that it has two separate tracks. These are known as the Old Course and the New Course. Both are left-handed, testing circuits with the Old Course being a mile-and-a-half in length, while the New Course is half a furlong longer.
The Old Course is used for the first two days of the Cheltenham Festival, with the New Course being used for the second two.
The two separate courses mean there is a huge variety of racing that takes place across the 28 races of the Cheltenham Festival. By Bus: There are local buses that operate from around the local area, the D and E buses operate every 15 minutes during the day, with other frequencies at other times. Service D stops at Cheltenham Spa railway station, making it a great option if you want to leave your car at home.
A dedicated race day bus service operates each day throughout the Cheltenham Festival, operating between Cheltenham Spa station, Cheltenham town centre, and Cheltenham Racecourse.
By Coach: There are many coach services that run packages for the Cheltenham Festival. Check with a reputable travel agent to find your options.
There are many different ticket options for fans looking to attend the Cheltenham Festival, although several general admission options are available. To get the best price, you should book in advance directly from The Jockey Club's website.
Tickets start from around £50 for an adult ticket in the Best Mate enclosure, with options to add vouchers for food, refreshments and a bet.
