The Robert Cowell trained three-year-old won over this course and distance on his handicap debut off an opening mark of 62 when returning from a 187 day break having been gelded over the winter. He was beaten at Windsor on his next start but was slightly hampered that day and was only a neck behind the winner Heartitfortheboys.

The handicapper has raised Dark Dreamer 3lbs for that effort up to a mark of 70 but he instead gets to run here off the same mark of 67 meaning he is 3lbs “well in” at the weights. This return to Kempton is no negative and he should prove hard to beat with Jack Mitchell, who won on him on his penultimate start, back on board.  

The Richard Hughes stable remain in good recent form and FICTIONAL (best priced at 3/1) is expected to repay punters who sent him off even money favourite for his handicap debut last time. The four-year-old showed very little on his first three starts last season but returned from a 192 day break on his handicap debut off an opening mark of 62. 

Fictional raced too keenly in the early stages of that 1m5½f contest before running on to finish 4th beaten only 1 ½ lengths at the finish. This drop in trip to 1m4f in a first time hood should mean he settles better in the early stages of the race and he is expected to record his first career victory off the same mark.
