Southwood Jet the one to beat in the Greyhound Derby final

The final of the English Greyhound Derby is finally upon us and it promises to be a fantastic contest pitting England against Ireland. In terms of my thoughts on the race, I would like to see Southwood Jet win the final on Saturday for Richard Rees. He is a deserving favourite having gone through the competition and he was impressive in his semi-final last week.

Both semi-finals were good last week and I think Wolfe ran particularly well to win his semi-final when getting the better of Deerjet Sydney. Wolfe is drawn in trap four and seems to be the danger. He will need to sharpen up his breaking from the traps slightly. The winner of the Derby last year was drawn in the middle and I think Wolfe has a good draw.

Southwood Jet and Deerjet Sydney are drawn next to each other in trap one and trap two and that promises to be a proper battle to get to the rails. However, I think Wolfe is the one to give Southwood Jet the most to think about. Deerjet Sydney was quite disappointing last week, he can run better than he did and is obviously another to watch. I just think it will be difficult for him to get round Southwood Jet. I just hope Southwood Jet wins and I think he is the one to be on.
