Pep Guardiola's Manchester City head to Brighton for the last of the midweek fixtures in the Premier League. They have ground to make up on Arsenal and Liverpool but their games in hand mean they are still the favourites to lift the title.

City booked their place in the FA Cup final at the weekend but they need to win the league for this season to be deemed a success.

They were unlucky when they crashed of the Champions League but there didn’t seem to be a hangover from that game when they beat Chelsea.

You can also back the Brighton vs Man City bet builder selections from Scott Thornton as individual legs. Below is the reasoning behind each part of his bet.

Both Teams To Score

Roberto De Zerbi has earned high praise for the football his Brighton side have produced since he took over at the club early last season. They have struggled to find the consistency that enabled them to qualify for European football last season but the manager continues to be linked with a host of bigger clubs.

The Seagulls are yet to beat Manchester City under De Zerbi but they have managed to score in all three head-to-heads. They have also scored an average of 1.9 goals per Premier League game at the Amex Arena under the Italian. Brighton have scored in 13 of their 15 home league matches this season.

Pep Guardiola’s men are very good at restricting their opponents to very few opportunities but they have been leaking goals of late. The 1-0 win over Chelsea was their first clean sheet in six matches and they were perhaps fortunate not to concede a penalty. Both teams have scored in six of their last seven away matches.

Manchester City To Win

Manchester City are unmatched in the business end of the season. They have an uncanny ability to get the job done when they are in a heated title race. The manager and the players are vastly experienced in this regard so I’m expecting them to pick up all three points here.

Pep’s side’s only defeat since losing to Aston Villa in December came via penalties against Real Madrid. City are unbeaten in regulation time in their last 27 matches. Over that period, they are scoring an average of 2.53 goals per game.

Brighton have won just one of their 14 matches against Manchester City since being promoted to the top tier of English football. They have lost 12 of those matches, conceding an average of 2.64 goals per game in the process.

Over 3.5 Cards In The Match

The Seagulls aren’t known for being a physical side but they have picked up an average of 2.59 cards per game this season, the 5th most in the Premier League.  This drops to 2.20 cards in their matches in front of their own fans.

Brighton have received two cards or more in their last seven matches against Manchester City. They have averaged 2.43 cards per game during that run.

City have played 15 away games in the league this season. Those matches have seen an average of 4.27 cards per game. There were six yellow cards and a red card in that game.
