Rishi Sunak has refused to rule out holding a UK general election in July.
The odds for an earlier than expected General Election date have continued to shorten after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak fuelled rumours of a July election this week by saying "his working assumption is an election in the second half of the year".
The case for a summer election is for Sunak to bring rebels in line for an electorate should the local elections in early May go as badly as expected for the Conservatives, providing less time for an attempted overthrow of his government.
Economists are also expecting inflation to fall to close to the Bank of England’s 2% target next month which might strengthen Sunak's position.
The odds for the election falling between July and September are now as short as 9/2 on William Hill (best price 13/2 on BetMGM) having been as long as 14/1 this time last month.
October to December remains the overwhelming favourite date range at a shortest 1/7 (87% implied chance) but a best price 1/4 on Sky Bet (80% likely).
