Scottish Grand National 2024 Odds: The new favourite to win the race revealed

Scottish Grand National 2024 Odds: The new favourite to win the race revealed

There is a new favourite with the bookmakers for the 2024 Grand National.

For almost all of this week, the talk in betting circles has centred around Willie Mullins and his pursuit of the National Hunt Trainers’ Championship as the Closutton handler bids to become the first Irishman in 70 years to win the title.

On Thursday, he declared the market favourite at the time, Macdermott, among his six runners in a field of 26 for the 2024 Scottish Grand National.

However, there is now a new bookmakers’ favourite for the big race at Ayr on Saturday (15:35) at best prices through oddschecker.

Who is the favourite to win the Scottish Grand National 2024?

The bookmakers’ favourite to win the 2024 Scottish Grand National at best prices is Git Maker, who is 8/1 on both bet365 and William Hill (shortest 13/2).

Macdermott has a matched shortest price of 13/2 but can be backed at 9/1 on Ladbrokes.

Since Mullins’ success with I Am Maximus in the Aintree Grand National last weekend, there had been a surge of support for Macdermott.

At the start of this month, he won comfortably by 12 lengths at Fairyhouse recently when running his most testing trip to date (3 miles).

Mullins has six of the 26 horses declared for the £200,000 Grand National on Scotland's first £500,000 raceday, with Macdermott (Danny Mullins) joined by Mullins’ other five contenders - Klarc Kent (Sean O'Keeffe), Mr Incredible (Patrick Mullins), Ontheropes (Brian Hayes), Spanish Harlem (Paul Townend) and We'llhavewan (Kieran Callaghan) - on Scotland's first £500,000 raceday.

There is a £200,000 prize pot for the Scottish Grand National with £112,540 for the winner.

However, it is the favourite Git Maker who has attracted the most bets on the race through oddschecker since final declarations were made on Thursday.

The Jamie Snowden trained runner, who ran was unfortunate to run into Inothewayurthinkin last time out when he was an 18 lengths clear second in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham, has been backed in more than 12% of the bets.

Interestingly, Macdermott only just makes it inside the top 10 for bets, with Spanish Harlem in second with 10% since the booking of Paul Townend.

The fifth most popular selection is Anglers Crag, who will be hoping to follow the same trend as last year's winner Kitty’s Light who won the Eider Chase at Newcastle before winning this.
