Newmarket Tips: Most backed horses for Thursday's Day 3 at the Craven Meeting

The most backed horses for Thursday's Day 3 of the Craven Meeting at Newmarket.

1.50 Newmarket: Blue Prince

The opening race on Craven day is a Class 2 6f handicap and BLUE PRINCE has been well supported for it.

The David Evans trained colt has already been busy this year running four times on the all-weather. Most recently, Blue Prince finished 3rd on Championships day at Newcastle when he was running on at the finish.

He looked as if in need of an extra furlong that day, but a 17 runner field should ensure a strong pace and he has the assistance of Ryan Moore.

Although he's top weight, he's also race fit and, having opened up around 12/1, he has been backed into 8/1 already.

2.25 Newmarket: Sanat

The 2.25 is a maiden stakes for unraced three year olds and, as such, the betting market is very volatile to money as it could indicate that the horse has been showing a lot at home.

One horse who has attracted some support is SANAT for Roger Varian. This son of Invincible Spirit cost 220,000 Guineas as a yearling and has been allocated stall 2.

Another positive is that James Doyle has been booked to ride. Doyle is no stranger to success at Newmarket having won both the 2000 and 1000 Guineas in 2022. With Thursday's maiden won over the same distance, it is Doyle can guide Sanat to success.

3.35 Newmarket: Alcantor

It is the French raider ALCANTOR who has proved popular in the betting for Thursday's Craven Stakes.

Andre Fabre's 3 year old enjoyed a busy juvenile campaign last year racing five times and winning thrice. The best run was in defeat however, finishing a 1/2 length 2nd to Sunway in the Group 1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud in October.

Worryingly, the 1st, 3rd and 4th have both been beaten first time out this season but Alcantor was sent off a warm 4/5 favourite that day, so perhaps more was expected.

Having won twice on good to soft ground, that was the softest that Alcantor had run on and, now returned to a sounder surface, perhaps the son of New Bay can show his true potential.

Indeed, his sire won the Prix du Jockey Club on good to soft ground and, with Andre Fabre operating at a 32% strike rate, it is hopeful he can reward supporters.
